Sunnah of Prophet Muhammed(PBUH)

Bismillah Hir Rahman Nir Raheem

1. Salam(Greeting):

Muslims should greet each other by saying “As-Salaamu Alaikum”. One should respond with “Wa-Alaikumus Salaam”. The response of Salaam has the similar reward as of saying salaam. Saying salaam is the Sunnah but its response is a Fard.  Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: “The person closest to Allah is the one who precedes others with greetings” (Abu Dawud). The greeting is one of the best things in Islam as Holy Prophet (PBUH) made spreading of Salaam a part of faith.

Saying Salaam is one of the rights over another Muslim as Holy Prophet (SAW) said in one of his hadith: “The Muslim has five rights over his fellow-Muslim: he should return his salaams, visit him when he is sick, attend his funeral, accept his invitation, and pray for mercy for him when he sneezes” (Bukhari).Muslims should greet another fellow Muslims no matter we know them or not. By greeting we can establish friendly relations with one another in a society. In Holy Quran Allah Almighty said about salaam in these words: “And those who believed (in the Oneness of God and His Messengers and whatever they brought) and did righteous deeds, will be made to enter Gardens under which rivers flow, – to dwell therein forever (i.e. in Paradise), with the Permission of their Lord. Their greeting therein will be, salam” (Quran, 14:23). Every one of us should make a habit of saying “As-Salaamu Alaikum”. Every time when you enter the house or see a child or an adult say, Salaam.

2. Smiling:

Do not belittle any good deed, even meeting your brother with a cheerful face.”
— Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
Source: Sahih Muslim Book 45, Hadith 187

3.Drinking Etiquette

Anas (Radi Allahu Anhu) reported beloved Prophet ﷺ disapproved the drinking of water while standing. (Muslim)
♦ Take the cup in your right hand and drinkAbdullah Bin Umar (Radi Allahu Anhu) narrates that Beloved Prophet ﷺ said: "When one eats then he should eat with the right hand and when one drinks then he should drink with the right hand. (Bukhari & Muslim)
♦ Say Bismillah before drinking
♦ Do not drink in one gulp. Drink in three gulps.
♦ Say Alhamdulillah after drinking
Beloved Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not drink in one gulp like a camel, but in two or three (gulps). Mention the Name of Allah (i.e., say Bismillah) when you start drinking and praise Him (i.e., say Al-hamdu lillah) after you have finished (drinking)." (Tirmidhi)

♦ Do not drink in gold or silver vesselsOur beloved Prophet ﷺ said: “Do not wear silk or brocade, and do not drink from vessels of gold and silver, or eat from plates thereof. They are for them in this world and for us in the Hereafter.” (Bukhari)

4.Forgiving

The Muslim is the brother of his fellow Muslim; he loves for him of good what he loves for himself, and he hates for him of evil what he hates for himself.

Undoubtedly there is no one among us who does not make mistakes and fall short, and does not wrong other people or transgress their rights to some extent; each of us would like people to forgive him for all the wrongs he has done to them, so that they will not ask for restitution thereof on the Day of Resurrection, which is the time when he will be most in need of his good deeds.

Allah, may He be exalted, urges us in His Book to forgive people and be patient with their annoyance, as He says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Who spend [in the cause of Allah ] during ease and hardship and who restrain anger and who pardon the people - and Allah loves the doers of good”

[Aal ‘Imraan 3:134]

“If [instead] you show [some] good or conceal it or pardon an offense - indeed, Allah is ever Pardoning and Competent”

[an-Nisaa’ 4:149]

“And if you punish [an enemy, O believers], punish with an equivalent of that with which you were harmed. But if you are patient - it is better for those who are patient”

[an-Nahl 16:126]

“And whoever is patient and forgives - indeed, that is of the matters [requiring] determination”

[ash-Shoora 42:43]

“But if you pardon and overlook and forgive - then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful”

[at-Taghaabun 64:14].

This is something that is also mentioned a great deal in the Sunnah. Muslim (4689) narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Charity does not decrease wealth. No one forgives, but Allah increases him in honour, and no one humbles himself before Allah but Allah raises him in status.”

Ahmad (21643) narrated that ‘Ubaadah ibn as-Saamit said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) say: “There is no man who suffers an injury to his body, then he forgives [the one who caused it] as an act of charity, but Allah will absolve his sins commensurate with the extent of his charity.” Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in as-Saheehah (2273).

Ahmad (1584) narrated that ‘Abd ar-Rahmaan ibn ‘Awf said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “There are three things concerning which, by the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, I would certainly swear an oath: wealth does not decrease because of charity, so give charity; no man pardons another for some mistreatment, seeking thereby the pleasure of Allah, but Allah will raise him in status thereby; and no one asks of people but Allah will increase him in poverty.”

These were some of the important sunnah of Prophet Muhammed(PBUH).
I'll continue to keep posting some some more sunnah in future InshaAllah.
